Early detection of breast cancer plays an important role in anticipating the spread of cancer. With early detection, incidence of cancer cells can be quickly resolved and prevented from spreading.
"We have known, about 70% of cancer patients are detected late, so just come to the doctor at the high stage. As a result the risk of cancer deaths higher"? said Sutjipto, a specialist in surgical oncology at medical lectures about cancer, yesterday in Jakarta.
He further explained, 90% of all cancers are preventable diseases. Prevention efforts that can be done for example by implementing a healthy lifestyle to prevent obesity, as well as routine check-up such as pap smears and radiological examination (mammogram).
According to WHO records, every year of breast cancer increased by 20%. In one year, there are more than one million new breast cancer patients. "Breast cancer is a silent killer, which kills slowly without being noticed when starting to infect the body," said Sutjipto.
The spread of cancer in the world began to increase along with the development of civilization. Shift in lifestyle, eating habits that cause obesity, air pollution, radiation, chemicals, alcohol and caffeine consumption, and the use of hormone into some examples of factors causing cancer. The more advanced a country, an increase of cancer patients is increasing, further Sutjipto.
"Indonesia with a society that tends to follow the Western lifestyle is also experiencing an increase in the number of cancer patients"? said the man who is also Chairman of the Breast Health Foundation in Jakarta.
One example of former breast cancer patients is Linda Agum Gumelar who is also Chairman of Kowani. "Nine years ago I have breast cancer, but thanks to early detection until now I am still healthy and still a chance to do something for society and women" he said.
Linda also said the goal of health lectures held on the cooperation of the Indonesian Women's Congress (Kowani), Jakarta Breast Health Foundation (YKPJ), and Lotus Leaf Foundation, a manufacturer of traditional Chinese medicine, is to provide knowledge about cancer, especially breast cancer to the public. The event was attended by women's organizations who are under Kowani.
"Based on the research, is currently unknown, 1 in 10 women affected by breast cancer"? he continued. But if early detection can walk, it is expected that number to decrease.
"When people hear the word cancer should not take it as a verdict, but suppose as ordinary words that can be overcome with calm, sincere, and handed it over to God but keep trying to do various ways of treatment that can be done" message Linda.
In line with Linda, one of the former Sonya Parengkuan breast cancer sufferers, who are now active in YKPJ, said that by always thinking positive and surrender ourselves to God really helped the healing process of cancer.
He was sentenced to stage 2 breast cancer, and had surgery the next day. This could make August Parengkuan wife is quite upset. But thanks to the family support she decided to keep fighting against the disease. After the operation, Sonya undergo 6 cycles of chemotherapy and radiotherapy 28 times. "Two months later I was back healthy, fit and return to normal life" I am woman who is still fresh in this middle age.
Now Sonya decided to become activists YKPJ to disseminate knowledge to the people not to like himself who admitted negligent conduct breast examinations such as mammograms. "I hope other women do not experience what I have ever experienced and can prevent cancer by early detection"? he said.
He also advised those who have been convicted of cancer for surrender completely to God in addition to treatment efforts. "We do the best, God do the rest?" he explained.
